To: Gaston Eloundou Essomba, Minister for Energy and Water Resources

Ensure clean drinking water for all Cameroonians!

Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right, yet millions of Cameroonians are still without it. With less than 40% of the population having access to potable water, the situation is dire, especially in underserved and rural areas. The government must act now to address this crisis.

We urgently call on the Government of Cameroon to implement critical measures to ensure that every citizen has access to safe and clean drinking water. Our demands are clear and necessary to safeguard public health, promote equity, and secure a sustainable future for all. We demand that the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Cameroon Gaston Eloundou Essomba take urgent action to guarantee access to clean and safe drinking water for every citizen.
Here’s what we need:

  1. Invest in Water Infrastructure: Build and upgrade water supply systems in both urban and rural areas to ensure everyone has access to clean water.
  2. Promote Rainwater Harvesting: Support and incentivize rainwater harvesting systems to supplement water supplies and reduce dependence on traditional sources.
  3. Protect Water Sources: Enforce strict regulations to prevent pollution and contamination of our rivers, lakes, and groundwater.
  4. Ensure Fair Distribution: Address disparities in water access, especially in underserved and rural areas, and ensure equitable distribution across all communities.
  5. Engage and Educate Communities: Involve local communities in water management and provide education on water conservation.
  6. Monitor and Accountability: Implement transparent monitoring systems and regularly report on water access and quality to hold parties accountable.

Why is this important?

With fewer than 40% of Cameroonians having access to clean water, the health risks are severe, and disparities between urban and rural access are glaring. Immediate action is needed to safeguard public health, reduce inequality, and promote sustainable water management.
