Give Communities a Voice: Demand Accountability in the Simandou Mining Project

The Simandou project—home to one of the world’s largest iron ore deposits—has the potential to transform Guinea’s economy.
But behind the promise of growth, hundreds of rural communities are watching their environment, farmland, and water sources come under serious threat.

Despite these impacts, there is still no inclusive platform where affected communities, civil society, local authorities, and mining companies can meet, raise concerns, and shape solutions together.

This must change.

We, citizens and stakeholders committed to fair and just natural resource governance, call for:

  1. The immediate creation of a multi-stakeholder dialogue framework that brings together the State, communities, mining companies, civil society organisations, youth, and women.

  2. The publication of all environmental and social impact assessments related to the Simandou project, in line with Article 217-II of the Guinean Mining Code.

  3. The establishment of a permanent citizen-led monitoring mechanism to document environmental damage and ensure community rights are respected.

This dialogue is not optional. It is a democratic necessity—the only way to guarantee that the Simandou project becomes transparent, fair, and respectful of human dignity.

Why is this important?

The Simandou project must not become another example of communities paying the price for national development. Guinea deserves economic progress, but not at the cost of destroyed farmland, polluted water, and silenced voices. Without transparency and genuine community participation, entire generations risk losing their land, livelihoods, and rights.

By signing this petition, you are demanding a Simandou that truly serves the Guinean people, their environment, their dignity, and their future.

Our objective is to gather at least 5,000 signatures to:

  • Strengthen and support the Citizens’ Memorandum currently being prepared by L’Autre Face de Simandou and its partners;

  • Formally submit this collective demand to the Government of the Republic of Guinea, the Ministry of Geology, and the mining companies involved, ensuring community voices cannot be ignored.

Your signature is a step toward justice, accountability, and a future where development does not come at the expense of the people.
